Delia Murphy to be celebrated at Ballina Arts Centre

Ballina Arts Centre will be the venue for a unique celebration of the life of singer, Delia Murphy on Thursday March 26, at 8pm. I’ll Live ‘til I Die: A celebration in story and song of the iconic Delia Murphy will be a night of stories and songs made famous by Delia. Presented by Aidan O’Hara (RTÉ’s Fáilte Isteach, and author of the popular biography on Delia I’ll Live ‘til I Die), the evening will feature songs such as ‘The Spinning Wheel’ and ‘If I were a Blackbird’, sung by Joyce O’Hara and accompanied by Aidan. Reading and commentary by Carmen Cullen niece of Delia Murphy, and author of poetry books and children’s dramatist, from her novel Two Sisters Singing, a family memoir with a fictional base inspired by the personality of her famous aunt. Delia Murphy (born February 16 1902 in Claremorris, Co. Mayo, died February 11 1971 in Dublin) was a world famous singer and collector of Irish ballads.

Rastrelli Cello Quartet at Ballina Arts Centre

Music fans are in for a real treat on Wednesday April 29, when the Rastrelli Cello Quartet bring their mix of classical, jazz and Latin American music to Ballina Arts Centre. The Quartet - Kira Kraftzoff, Kirill Timofeev, Misha Degtiareff, Sergio Drabkine, all cello – present a heady mix of styles and genres. With pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Sulchan Zinzadze, Billy Strayhorn, Alfred Schnittke, Jimmy Forrest and Modest Mussorgsky amongst others, the result has to be heard to be believed.

Half Asleep: Julia Pallone exhibition at Ballina Arts Centre

Throughout the month of June, Ballina Arts Centre will host Half Asleep, an exhibition by multi-disciplinary artist, Julia Pallone. Through a variety of means, such as drawing, photography and installations, she explores a poetic vision of the world, a vision which is fragile and vulnerable.

Kindermusic Summer Camp at Ballina Arts Centre

Ballina Arts Centre is delighted to announce the return this year of its annual Kindermusic Summer Camp for Children. Running on the week of Monday August 10 to Friday August 14, this five-day workshop is an engaging introduction to understanding the important elements of music, based on the Kodaly method. Under the direction of Edel McDonnell, each workshop lasts for 90 minutes and promises lots of fun activities during the week with a concert on the final day for parents, family and friends.

Jack B Yeats and the West of Ireland at Ballina Arts Centre

Throughout January and February Ballina Arts Centre will present Jack B Yeats and the west of Ireland, a special exhibition of the artist’s works from Sligo and Mayo.
